Families and children shave their heads to aid cancer research

Roughly a dozen people had their head shaved to raise funds for child cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s Foundation event at L’Oracle gymnasium in southwest Las Vegas on Sunday.

The event was a kick off event for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which will hold another head-shaving fundraiser at McMullan’s Irish Pub, where approximately 400 people are expected to shave their heads, on March 1.

Last year the St. Baldrick’s Foundation raised $34 million for research worldwide and they have a goal to raise $38 million in 2014. It is the largest donor to child cancer research outside of the federal government, according to the organization’s CEO, Kathleen Ruddy.
